LARRY SENETA
CLASS OF 1960
Larry Seneta graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School in 1960. Larry was an outstanding three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and baseball. He was named first-team All-County in all three sports and earned an athletic scholarship in basketball to Youngstown State University.
Upon graduation from YSU Larry was drafted by the Detroit Tigers and won the AAA Batting Crown in 1964 edging out Hall of Famer Rod Carew.
Larry returned to Girard in 1967 and began a 36-year teaching career at GHS. Larry also coached football, baseball, and boys basketball for many years until he began building one of the most successful powerhouse girls' basketball programs in Pennsylvania. "Larry the Legend" has over 600 wins in girls' hoops with a state championship, 2 state runner-up titles, numerous District 10 Championship awards, final four appearances, and was named "PIAA Coach of the Year". Even with this outstanding record on the hard-court Larry is most proud that 90% of his girls went on to attend college.
